Secrets, Stories, and Flavors on the Pest Riverside

Let's explore one of Budapest's most exciting historical routes with the guidance of József Fias! The walk starts at Fővám Square, where the stories of the old Pest commercial center, the customs house, and the goods arriving on the Danube evoke the city's vibrant past. From here, we will step into the elegant world of Váci Street, which was once the favorite promenade of the Pest bourgeoisie.

As we head towards the Danube through Sörház Street, we will discuss the old inns and breweries, and then the histories of merchant palaces and famous residents come to life at Belgrád Quay. Along the way, we will make a short detour to Molnár Street, where a hidden message in a special mosaic awaits attentive eyes.

The walk will also be enriched with culinary experiences: we will have tasting stops at Cafe Brunch and then at Tapas Fino. As we stroll along the riverside, we will admire the panorama of the Danube and the secrets of the historic houses. Upon arriving at March 15 Square, the centuries-old past of the Central Church will unfold, and from here we can also see the unique façade of the "Elephant House."

At the end of the walk, we will recall the legendary atmosphere of Mátyás Cellar, which was once one of the iconic venues of the Pest hospitality scene.

Duration of the walk: approximately 2 hours

Participation: 2,000 HUF/person, which should be transferred to the bank account number provided in the confirmation email received during registration by April 9, 2026, at the latest.

Participant limit: approximately 20-25 people

IMPORTANT!

The walks require registration and can be attended for a unified participation fee of 2,000 HUF per person. Please transfer the fee to the bank account number provided in the confirmation email received at registration, from which we will issue an invoice after the walk.


Participation in the advertised program is allowed only in compliance with the current epidemic regulations at all times.  If you have any symptoms characteristic of a COVID-19 infection, are confirmed positive, or are classified as a contact person, please do not participate in the program!

We kindly ask that you arrive for the walk no later than 10 minutes before the start to allow time for the distribution of devices.

There is a limited number of participants, and the use of a Headset (tourguide) device is mandatory ; the fee is included in the walk's participation fee. This is necessary to maintain the appropriate distance and minimize environmental noise. We cannot ensure that those who do not use it will always hear the tour guide properly. The number of devices delivered to the location will match the number of registered participants. The only exception is if someone cannot use the device for health reasons, in which case we will waive this requirement. It is also recommended to use your own headphones for both comfort and environmental reasons. The device has a standard jack, so what is used with your own phone will work here as well. For those who do not have their own, we will, of course, provide one for the device.
